Delayed Medical Diagnosis

Unfortunately, press coverage of delayed medical diagnosis and medical misdiagnosis is all too frequent of late. Recent news highlighted that the ongoing review of scans carried out by a radiologist in Kerry,  have found that the  number of patients to have suffered a delayed diagnosis has risen to 9 with a total of 114 patients recalled for a re-check.

This news emerged days after it was reported that in Wexford, 13 cancer cases at Wexford General Hospital were missed in patients’ colonoscopies.  During the review of the incident involving one consultant, a total of 615 colonoscopies were reviewed, and 401 patients were sent for further colonoscopies.
